今日は木工専門学校の入校式。久しぶりに起立、礼、着席をした。木工工芸科の教室では早速担任の挨拶と説明が始まった。生徒は20人、年齢は18〜60前後まで幅広く、男性15名、女性5名の割合だった。木工科らしく、担任の自己紹介も早々に家具の話しを聞いた。ヨーロッパ人は日本人より家具を大事にするらしい。学習机の天端は桧で作ってあり今は去年の生徒が作った物を組立てある。今年も自分で制作した後、交換するらしい。学校の校則と年間スケジュールの説明を聞いて、作業着に着替えた。なんとなくゆっくり時間が進む。学校は年間スケジュールが決まっていて先が見えているからなのか、関係者は皆淡々としている。営業やビジネスの世界とはまったく別世界だ。そういった視点から自分のビジネスを想像する事も出来そうだと思った。とにかく今日から１年間の木工修業、僕の第二の学生生活がスタートした！
Today was the entrance ceremony, and for the first time in a while, we stood up, bowed, and took our seats. In the woodworking crafts classroom, our homeroom teacher promptly gave a speech and explanation. There are 20 students in total, ranging in age from 18 to around 60, with a ratio of 15 men to 5 women. True to the woodworking field, our teacher quickly began discussing furniture. It seems that European people value furniture more than Japanese people do. The tops of our study desks are made of cypress and are currently assembled from what last year’s students made. This year, it appears we will also create our own desks and exchange them. After hearing the explanation of the school rules and annual schedule, we changed into our work clothes. Time seemed to pass slowly for some reason. Perhaps because the school has a predetermined annual schedule and the future is visible, everyone involved seems to be calm and composed. It’s a completely different world from the realms of sales or business. From that perspective, I thought I could imagine my own business as well. Anyway, today marks the start of my one-year woodworking apprenticeship and my second student life!
